The Lighter Side of History

The Lighter Side of Historyby: David Liotta (teacher 801, 802, and 803-creator of DNN News), Terence Caufield (teacher of 803) and Dr. Rose Reissman (founder of the Writing Institute). (2012)

This book focuses on the use of print newspaper, films, online and broadcast media news about fashion, sports and entertainment to foster the 5 Pillars for Common Core SS and ELA Content Literacy. Through the students readings these texts doe text complexity they build knowledge across a broad range of subject matter. The issue text dependent questions and tasks supported students in evaluating multiple perspectives to analyze the sources. Finally students as both working anchors of DNN- Ditmas News Network- and as current citizens of NYC , use relevant evidence from the text to support their points of view.
