As many schools are underfunded for resources and new technology, the teachers and students at Ditmas I.S. 62 collaborated to showcase how traditional school methods are obsolete in the 21st century and are increasingly being reformed into a technological state. The video begins with the traditional teaching approach via "paper and pen" where students want to raise awareness through a brief musical performance of what they are missing out on in the technological world. Next, the video shows a projection of what school could be if more technology was driven into it. Finally, the question of "what will it be?" is raised. Students dreams are not yet fulfilled due to the lack of technological resources necessary.
The song was a remake (parody) of Telephone, as performed by Lady Gaga. The lyrics were written by the teacher and students in an attempt to make the message understandable to as many diverse educators and students as possible. The song was also remixed to maintain a reasonable time frame. The music video was submitted into a worldwide competition sponsored by eInstruction for a chance to win $75,000 worth of technology materials for classroom makeovers. Out of 264 entries Ditmas was selected as one of the top five finalists for public voting. In competing with West Virginia, Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma, Ditmas maxed out at 564 votes. Not enough for the victory. However, being the only school from the Northeast, much attention was raised. NY 1 did a story on Ditmas based on the video. The city responded and Ditmas then received offers from the city for technology funding.
